Problems solved by technology

[0006] However, known headsets comprise a large number of parts and are relatively difficult to assemble, both during manufacture and subsequent self-adjustment by the rider, necessitating an otherwise unnecessary adjustment of the roller bearings

Embodiment Construction

[0035] A first embodiment will now be described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 3 .

[0036] The bicycle headset is used to connect the fork pivot tube 1 to the steering tube 2 which forms part of the bicycle frame (not shown). The headset 2 includes a lower roller bearing 3 and an upper roller bearing 4 , which are located at the lower or upper end of the steering tube 2 to form a rotational connection between the fork pivot tube 1 and the steering tube 2 .

[0037] The lower 3 and upper 4 roller bearings are housed in a lower housing 5 or upper housing 6 , which are defined by annular shoulders 7 , 8 respectively. In the example shown, the first shoulder 7 constitutes an inclined bearing surface and the second shoulder 8 constitutes a bearing surface with a radial extension.

[0038] In order to eliminate axial movement of the lower 3 and upper 4 roller bearings, the headset includes means for axially locking the roller bearings.

Abstract

The headset has an annular insert made of elastic material, and units axially locking lower and upper roller bearings (3, 4) against a lower / upper end of a steering tube (2). The units have an axial locking part formed by a circular groove (9) on an outer face of a fork pivoting tube (1). The part co-operates with another axial locking part formed by a complementary shaped rib (10). The rib is provided on an annular element (11) elastically deformable in a direction perpendicular to an axis (A-A) of the tube (1) and placed above the bearing (4) to exert a thrust against the bearing (4).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a bicycle headset. Background technique [0002] A bicycle headset is used to connect the fork pivot tube to the steering (sleeve) tube that forms part of the bicycle frame. [0003] To this end, any headset includes lower and upper roller bearings that establish a connection that allows the pivot tube to rotate relative to the steerer tube. Furthermore, the headset includes means for axially locking the lower and upper roller bearings against the lower or upper end of the steerer tube. [0004] The means of axially locking the lower and upper roller bearings on a standard headset typically includes a plug that sits on top of the yoke tube and is supported inside the yoke tube by an expander. [0005] One problem that arises in this known headset is the compensation of the wear of the roller bearings and the axial fixation of the bracket on the fork pivot tube. This problem is generally solved by using a certain numb...
