Embodiment Construction

[0041] Fig. 1 shows the message flow in the first embodiment of the present invention. This embodiment includes a user agent (UA) 120, a dedicated DNS server 121, a public DNS server 122, and a node 123 in an external IMS network.

[0042] In the first embodiment of the present invention, the user agent 120 may be a fixed device with software that provides a video phone function through an IMS network, or a mobile device with a push-to-talk over wireless (PoC) application. PoC is an IMS service that allows users to talk to each other by pressing a button on their mobile device. It uses a permanent online connection to the IMS network, such as a GPRS connection, and converts spoken words into data packets that are transmitted to the IMS network. The IMS network routes the data packet to the destination, and then the receiving user can hear the spoken word. The PoC application aims at an example of a SIP request (SIP Request) as a source, and the PoC application uses various othe...

Abstract

To resolve a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) for use in routing messages in or between IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) networks, a query (101; 201) is sent to resolve this URI from a device (120; 220) to a private name server (121; 221). The private name server (121; 221) attempts to resolve the URI. In case of failure the method further involves the sending of a new query (104; 203) for resolving the URI to a public name server (122; 222). The public name server (122; 222) resolves the URI in the new query (104; 203).

Description

Technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to address resolution in an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network. In order to route messages between various nodes in the IMS network, these nodes perform address resolution. Address translation is mainly used when messages are routed between different networks and in case the user is roaming. Background technique [0002] The identification of users and nodes in the network is usually done through the use of alphanumeric representations of systems such as domain names, rather than numerical representations. However, the system itself uses digital representations such as Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. The conversion of alphanumeric to numeric representation needs to be performed in the network. IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) networks use IP addresses to route messages via these networks and between different networks. Each message sent in the IMS network contains the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Uniform Re...
