620 results about "Uniform resource identifier" patented technology

A Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) is a string of characters that unambiguously identifies a particular resource. To guarantee uniformity, all URIs follow a predefined set of syntax rules, but also maintain extensibility through a separately defined hierarchical naming scheme (e.g. http://).

System And Method For Enabling Search Of Content

A system and method for searching content. The method comprises receiving from a first user metadata relating to generating a guide for content. A guide is generated relating to the content. The guide facilitates navigation of the content on a device. The metadata is forwarded to a metadata analyzer where the metadata is processed to produce processed metadata. The processed metadata is forwarded to an index server. An index is generated for the content based on the metadata at the index server. A query is received from a second user, the index is searched and a result is forwarded to the second user in response to the query. The result includes at least a uniform resource identifier relating to at least some of content. The second user may add additional metadata relating to the content.

Heuristically assisted user interface for a wireless communication device

A method and apparatus for implementing a heuristic user interface for a mobile device that assists a user with the management and utilization of contact identifiers (e.g. phone numbers, facsimile numbers, email addresses and uniform resource identifiers (URIs)). Content stored on or being processed by a mobile device is analyzed for the presence of predetermined classes of contact identifiers. When a contact identifier belonging to one of the predetermined classes is encountered, it is presented to the user of the mobile device on the display screen and the user interface of the mobile device is provisioned (e.g., softkey assignments and screen displays) for the particular class of contact identifier encountered. The encountered contact identifiers may be used as direct contact identifiers or indirect contact identifiers. Direct contact identifiers are used to initialize the appropriate application for the class of identifier encountered (e.g. an email application for an email contact identifier) and establish contact with an associated entity (e.g. an email addressee). Indirect contact identifiers are used to retrieve locally and remotely held records containing the encountered contact identifiers.

Method and apparatus for bookmarking uniform resource identifiers that are subject to redirection

A system, method and computer program product that enables retrieval of a web page that was previously retrieved by a browser device as a result of issuing an HTTP request with a given request URI that resulted in a redirection response from a server device. The system implements the use of bookmarks to retrieve a web page that was retrieved earlier using a given request URI by associating a request URI with a bookmark stored in a browser; later reference to the bookmark initiates retrieval of the web page identified by the URI associated with that bookmark. The association between the request URI and the bookmark is distributed between the browser and the web server. In a second aspect of this invention, the association is stored entirely in the browser.

Translation of resource identifiers using popularity information upon client request

A system, method and computer-readable medium for request routing based on content popularity information are provided. A client computer transmits a request for content from a content provider. The content provider utilizes executable code, such as translation request code, for facilitating request routing utilizing popularity information. The translation request code, may direct a client computing device to request further translation request code and / or translation information. Thereafter, the client issues a DNS query with the translated information including popularity information. The content delivery network service provider can then either resolve the DNS query with an IP address of a cache component or transmit another alternative resource identifier that will resolve to the content delivery network service provider. The process can repeat until a DNS nameserver resolves a DNS query from the client computing device.

Solution for the resolution of flexible address schemes for IMS services

To resolve a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) for use in routing messages in or between IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) networks, a query (101;201) is sent to resolve this URI from a device (120;220) to a private name server (121;221). The private name server (121;221) attempts to resolve the URI. In case of failure the method further involves the sending of a new query (104;203) for resolving the URI to a public name server (122;222). The public name server (122;222) resolves the URI in the new query (104;203).

Stateless methods for resource hiding and access control support based on URI encryption

An apparatus and method are disclosed for enabling controlled access to resources at a resource provider server. The invention may encrypt or decrypt a portion of a uniform resource identifier (URI), according to a stateless method for hiding resources and / or providing access control support. Upon receipt of a URI having an encrypted portion, the invention decrypts the encrypted portion using a predetermined key to obtain a decrypted segment, extracts additional information from the decrypted segment and forms a decrypted URI, before the decrypted URI is forwarded to a resource producer server. The invention may also encrypt a URI from a resource provider server before it is sent to a client in response to a client request.

A service may publish the service advertisement in a space which stores documents such as eXtensible Markup Language (XML) documents. The advertisement may include a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) and an XML schema for the service that specifies XML messages which are usable to invoke functions of the service. A client may access the space and read the advertisement to construct a gate for access to the service. The client may send a first XML message to the service at the URI, wherein the first XML message is specified in the XML schema, to invoke one or more functions of the service. The service may send a second message specified in the XML schema (e.g., a message including the results of the invoked function(s)) to the client.

Maintaining session persistence without client-supported cookies

Switch-implemented methods of maintaining persistence of a session between a client node and a server node are described. A response from the server node to a first request from the client node is received. The first request includes a uniform resource identifier (URI). The response includes a cookie that includes a random session identifier. The response also includes rewritten uniform resource locators (URLs) that include the URI and the session identifier. The session identifier from the cookie and the identity of the server node are stored. A second request is received from the client node. The second request includes a rewritten URI (when the client node does not support or enable the use of cookies). The session identifier from the rewritten URI is matched to the session identifier in memory to identify the associated server node. The second request can then be directed to the server node.

Method and apparatus for authenticating RFID tags

In an RFID system, a method and apparatus for linking an RFID tag to an associated object. The system includes a relatively simple tag, a reader, a linker, and a store. The reader interrogates the tag for an ID and selectively provides the ID to the linker. The linker, in turn, uses the ID to provide back to the reader an associated Uniform Resource Identifier (“URI”). The reader then forwards the URI to the store. In response, the store returns to the reader the object associated with the ID via the URI. The disclosed method and apparatus provide more efficient and secure tag authentication.

Method and apparatus for identifying caller preferences matched to callee capabilities for IMS communications

Multimedia IMS communications are established by matching callee capabilities with caller preferences and identifying a URI parameter in response thereto. When a session initiation protocol (SIP) request identifying caller preferences for an internet communication session and an identified callee is received (602), a determination is made of whether the identified callee is a registered address of record (AOR) or not (604). If the identified callee is a registered AOR (604), a uniform resource identifier (URI) parameter and a globally routable user agent URI (GRUU) associated with callee capabilities are identified (608, 612, 614). The URI parameter is used to create a modified SIP including the URI parameter (616) for sending (618) to an IMS enabled wireless communication device (120).
