Embodiment Construction

[0015] The present invention relates to a solution to eliminate the waiting time required for centrifugation of containers, such as blood typing cards, by providing an any access centrifuge with multiple centrifuge discs. When containers are placed on the tray, for example by loading slots, the tray with containers can be centrifuged without waiting for other containers to be placed on other rotors.

[0016] The following description will be made by means of a non-limiting example as shown in the accompanying drawings. as attached figure 1 In the illustrated embodiment, the large diameter discs are individual centrifuges 20A-20F. Although attached figure 1 The example in Fig. 1 shows six centrifugal discs, but the invention is not limited thereto and the number of discs can be from two to any desired number. The centrifugal disk rotates about an axis 21 . Centrifugal disk 20F is shown in the load / unload position.

[0017] In a preferred embodiment, the containers are gel ...

Abstract

The present invention relates to random access incubator. A centrifuge includes: a plurality of centrifuge discs each disc having an attachment for attaching a container containing a liquid to be centrifuged; a disc driver positioned to engage and rotate the discs; a disc engager / disengager for individually moving each of said discs into and out of contact with the disc driver; and a controller for controlling which discs are engaged or disengaged from the disc driver and the amount of time each disc is centrifuged. In a preferred embodiment, the container is a card for blood typing. In another embodiment, a centrifuge includes: a plurality of centrifuge discs each disc having an attachment for attaching a container containing a liquid to be centrifuged; a plurality of disc drivers positioned to engage and rotate the discs, wherein the rotation of discs are controlled by the plurality of disc drivers; and a controller for controlling which discs are rotated by the plurality of disc drivers and the amount of time the discs are centrifuged by individually controlling each disc driver. An immunohematology instrument includes: said centrifuge; an incubator; a metering apparatus; an imaging apparatus; gel card storage; and reagent storage.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a centrifuge and a method of centrifuging a container, especially a blood type test card, such as a gel or bead type card. In particular, the invention relates to a random access centrifuge with independently accessible rotors and a method for independently centrifuging containers, especially blood type testing cards. Background technique [0002] Known blood typing (immunohematology) analyzers include, for example, the Vitros by Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, Inc. Provue and Autovue analyzers. There are currently two immunohematological assays. They are manual and automatic methods respectively. The manual method requires the operator to manually place the card into the centrifuge. The automated methods (Provue and Autovue) automatically place the card in the centrifuge after a period of incubation. In both cases, the cards are loaded in batch mode. This requires the centrifuge to wait until all cards are loaded be...
