[0023] When operating modern commercial aircraft, it is important to understand the internal loads (bending moments and shear forces) acting on the aircraft structure during flight. These loads are caused by actions directed by the pilot or the Electronic Flight Control System (EFCS) or by turbulence or discrete wind gusts through which the aircraft is flying. However, these loads cannot be monitored by measurements at any desired position of the aircraft. In accordance with the present invention, these loads are reconstructed from flight data available from commercial aircraft (e.g. Euler angles, "body angular rate", acceleration, GPS data), the position of the control surfaces and calculations using a mathematical model of the aircraft . In addition, the gust velocity should be estimated by appropriate means to calculate the loads due to the gust.
