Abstract

The present invention provides a method for driving an electrophoretic display device which can display image at the front side and the back side and has the advantages of thinness and low cost and the electrophoretic display device thereof. The electrophoretic display device 10 is provided with an electrophoretic display layer between the element substrate and the opposite substrate which have light permeability, and furthermore a control device 50 and an acceleration sensor 52 are embedded in the second frame 11B of the display panel 11. The control device 50 determines the surface facing the upper side of the display panel 11 according to the inclination angle of the electrohoretic display device 10 detected by the acceleration sensor 52, and confirms the surface facing the upper side to a ''display surface'' for displaying image, etc. Furthermore, the control device 50 displays the image based on the displayed data on the display panel 11 at the condition that the ''display surface'' is the front surface, and displays the display data (reversal display data) which is obtained by reversing the left-and-right and black-and-white of the display data on the display panel 11 at the condition that the ''display surface'' is the back surface.
