Embodiment Construction

[0039] The self-calibrating digital-to-analog converter and its method according to embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to related drawings. For ease of understanding, the same elements in the following embodiments are described with the same symbols.

[0040]The present invention is applicable to various types of digital-to-analog converters. In this embodiment, a 4-bit current-steering digital-to-analog converter (Current-Steering DAC) is used to illustrate how to implement the present invention, but it is not limited thereto. As mentioned above, the maximum differential non-linear error of the 4-bit digital-to-analog converter occurs when a control code (or digital input code) increases from control code 7 to control code 8, wherein at control code 7, except digital-analog Except for the most effective unit in the converter, the other units are all turned on (started); when the control code is 8, except for the most effective unit, th...

Abstract

A digital-to-analog converter improves differential non-linearity by performing a calibration of at least one weighted cell in response to a calibration command. The digital-to-analog converter includes a group of weighted cells, a tunable cell having a tunable weight controlled by a tuning word, and a calibration cell to generate a combined output signal in response to a digital input word, the calibration command, and a calibration sequence. The digital-to-analog converter also includes a calibration circuit configured to sample and subsequently process the combined output signal to establish the tuning word in accordance with the calibration command and the calibration sequence.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a digital-to-analog converter, in particular to a digital-to-analog converter capable of self-calibration. Background technique [0002] Currently, a Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) is used to convert a digital control code into an analog signal. The application principle of the present invention is applicable to various digital-to-analog converters. In the description of the present invention, a current-steering digital-to-analog converter (Current-Steering DAC) is used as an embodiment for explanation. [0003] figure 1 A typical 4-bit current-steering DAC 100 is shown, which is used to convert a 4-bit control code D[3:0] into an analog current signal IOUT. The DAC 100 includes four current units I0 , I1 , I2 and I3 , and these current units are respectively controlled by control bits D[0], D[1], D[2] and D[3] of the control code. One end of each current unit is connected to a first fixed potential node VSRC, and the ot...
