The invention relates to a graying method based on spectral reflection characteristic and three-color imaging principle which is suitable for a color image with object and local background having color separation characteristic. The method includes steps as follows: firstly, analyzing the spectral reflection characteristic with object and local background in visible light wave band; secondly, comparing difference of two spectral reflection characteristic in three original color wave band of the imaging device; thirdly, defining the color corresponding to the most difference as gray color; finally, graying the color image by using corresponding weight of the gray color in RGB color space. Compared with the prior art, the method has graying function and function for enhancing customized object region contrast from a data source, and also can weaken effect to the image quality by some imaging conditions, such as material pollution, shadow, weak illumination effectively.
