Abstract

A signal generation unit and a method are provided for generating data signals in a control unit of a power system installation, wherein the control unit is in particular a tap changer drive unit. The signal generation unit includes: a signal relay (6) for alternately opening and closing at least one relay contact, thereby performing a switching operation between two different output voltages; and a protection circuit connected with the at least one relay contact Contacts are connected in parallel for protecting the at least one relay contact against overvoltage. The at least one relay contact corresponds to two relay output terminals (8).
