Embodiment Construction

[0024] Referring to the accompanying drawings, a typical constant velocity joint is shown. The constant velocity universal joint and the universal joint chamber shown in the figure can be a fixed constant velocity universal joint in an integrated form, and this fixed constant velocity universal joint in an integral form can be used for the propeller shaft of a vehicle (rear drive drive shaft). However, it should be noted that any type of constant velocity joint and constant velocity joint chamber may be used in accordance with the present invention, including, but not limited to, tripod, fixed tripod universal joint or similar. That is, those skilled in the art will readily recognize the advantages that the present invention can achieve in substantially all types of constant velocity joints and thus the present invention should not be limited to the illustrated embodiments.

Abstract

An embodiment of a connection system for a grease cover of a constant velocity joint includes a groove portion formed in a generally annular portion of the constant velocity joint. The generally annular portion is defined, at least in part, by an inner surface. The system also includes a grease cover selectively positioned at least partially within the groove portion. The grease cover includes anouter edge portion.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates primarily to constant velocity joints and thus particularly to grease covers. Background technique [0002] Constant velocity joints (CV joints) are commonly used components in vehicles. Constant velocity joints are often used where it is necessary or desirable to transmit constant velocity rotational motion. CV joints are usually greased or otherwise lubricated to ensure longevity of the components. The joints are sealed to keep the grease or lubricant inside the joint while keeping contaminants and impurities, such as water and dust, out of the joint. Furthermore, the annular portion at the axial end of the CV joint and through which the shaft is inserted is usually enclosed with a sealing boot, which may be made of rubber material, thermoplastic material, silicone material or similar materials. As for the axial end opposite to the above-mentioned axial end, the opposite axial end may also be covered with a grease cap to sea...
