Problems solved by technology

[0003] Second, it is often the case that a remotely located television reporter (also referred to herein as a program reporter) is not directly synchronized with the actual television broadcast produced from the broadcast studio to its television audience
In the case of lost and disconnected IFB connections, the remotely located reporters and their camera crews may be "uninformed" and not know what they are supposed to do or the next question the moderator will give them

Embodiment Construction

[0012] In the following description, for purposes of explanation, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of the present invention. It will be apparent, however, to one of ordinary skill in the art that the exemplary embodiment may be practiced without these specific details. In other instances, structures and devices are shown in diagram form to facilitate description of the exemplary embodiments.

[0013] figure 1 A device 100 according to a first embodiment of the invention is shown in . figure 2 shown for control figure 1 One or more components are shown in microcontroller 200. Device 100 is a self-contained, full-duplex device that accepts input from a digital or analog media source (video, audio, and / or data) and encodes or compresses that source (using the MPEG standard, for example) into a network-transmissible network type (for example using the IP standard), so that it can also compensate for network limitations and b...

Abstract

A duplex communications system includes a device that provides full duplex audio and video communications between a first location and a second location. The device includes a transceiver unit at the first location configured to transmit audio and video data over a wireless network to the second location where a broadcast studio may be located. The transceiver unit is further configured to receive audio and / or video data sent over the wireless network from the second location back to the first location. The audio and / or video data is provided to at least one of an on-air talent and a cameraperson located at the first location.

Description

Background technique [0001] The present invention relates generally to the transmission of audio and video data between one or more remote locations, such as a newsgathering field, and a central location, such as a television studio, and to other communications between such locations. [0002] Conventional systems for enabling remotely located television reporters to broadcast a story have limitations. First, a dedicated communication link is used to provide information from a remotely located reporter to the television studio (central location). These dedicated links usually require a specially equipped TV OB truck or transport vehicle to enable communication with the TV studio, the truck has a large microwave antenna that must be raised upwards. The large microwave antenna on the OB van or transport vehicle must be positioned in the direction of the broadcast studio or a transponder tower located nearby (in the case where the antenna of the broadcast studio is not in line o...
