Embodiment Construction

[0028] Figure 1a An apparatus in the form of a pump controller featuring one or more modules 12 and 14 is shown generally indicated by reference numeral 10 . The one or more modules 12 are configured to respond to the inclusion and pump (see element 30( Figure 4 )) one or more input signals for current-related information provided; Figure 4 ) is an output signal of information operating at a substantially constant pressure.

[0029] According to some embodiments of the invention, the one or more modules 12 may be configured to control the pumps 30 based at least in part on a table of voltage and current-related characteristics corrected for each pump ( Figure 4 ), wherein the characteristics can be determined by the following equations:

[0030] I=Vm+C,

[0031] Among them, m=(I1-I2) / (V1-V2),

[0032] C=(V1*I2-V2*I1) / (V1-V2),

[0033] (V1, I1): the low point of the curve, and

[0034] (V2, I2): High point of the curve.

Abstract

The present invention provides a technique using current sensing to control the pressure at constant level without the direct sensing of the pressure. This technique will help to reduce dependency solely on switch or sensor and their non linearity and other associated problems such as the non-repetitive behavior, being affected by EMI etc. The technique includes using a pump controller featuring one or more modules configured to respond to one or more input signals containing information about current provided from a pump; and configured to provide one or more output signals containing information to control the pump to operate at a substantially constant pressure without the direct sensing of pump pressure. The one or more modules control the operation of the pump based at least partly on a table of characteristics related to voltage and current that is calibrated for each pump.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to techniques for controlling the operation of a pump, including providing a method for controlling the pump to operate at a constant pressure using motor current as a sensing parameter and motor voltage as a control parameter. [0002] More particularly, the present invention relates to a method and apparatus for maintaining constant output pressure with pump control based at least in part on a unique algorithm that senses motor current and tracks the V-I characteristic of the pump. Background technique [0003] Many pumps of the prior art include a mechanical pressure switch, or a semiconductor hall sensor, or a load cell, or any other form of electronic pressure sensing device, which shuts off the pump above a certain pressure (ie the shut-off pressure). The pressure switch, hall sensor or load cell is typically in physical communication with the fluid within the pump. When the pressure of the fluid exceeds the closing...
