example 1

[0036] The tear film volume on the eyes of three adult subjects was measured and determined to be an average of 2.26Φl. The subjects were then treated in the following way: A fine mist of an average droplet size between 50 and 100 microns was delivered to the surface of their eyes, with a total volume of 2-5Φl per eye within 10 seconds. After delivery, the tear volume was measured again and determined to be 2.96Φl on average.

example 2

[0038] Samples of tear film from three adult subjects were obtained and subjected to HPLC chromatography to determine the baseline level of proteins and other components in the tear film. One eye of each subject was then wetted by feeding a standard droplet of artificial tears between 25 and 50 Φl. Samples of tear film from the three treated eyes were then obtained and subjected to HPLC chromatography. After obtaining the second set of samples, the opposite eyes of each subject were then moistened by feeding the same artificial tear fluid, but a fine mist composed of droplets, the size of which was between 50 and 100 Between microns, the total volume is about 5Φl. A sample of the tear film from the eye treated with the fine mist was then obtained and subjected to HPLC chromatography. Artificial tears are also subjected to HPLC chromatography.

[0039] The initial HPLC chromatography method provided a profile of the components found in the normal tear film. Found to contain va...

Abstract

The invention discloses a method used for wetting an eye. In the method, a certain amount of water-containing fluid is transported to the eye, wherein a transportation volume is lower than the volume which causes eye overflow and is removed from the surface of the eye by a normal tear film. Preferably, the fluid mainly comprises the water. In other words, the fluid does not contain a therapeutic active ingredient, but can contain non-therapeutic ingredients such as a preservative, a lubricant, a surface active agent and a buffer. When the fluid is conveyed according to the method, the fluid makes the existing tear film rehydrated, rather than replace the tear film. The fluid is conveyed by jetting fluid mist towards the face of a person from a container held by the person.

Description

Technical field [0001] The invention relates to the field of care and treatment of the surface of the eye, including sclera, conjunctiva and cornea. More specifically, the present invention relates to the application of treatments and other fluids for wetting and treating the surface of the eye. Background technique [0002] Under normal circumstances, the surface of the eye, including the sclera, conjunctiva, and cornea, remains moist due to the presence of the tear film. This tear film is found in virtually all spinal creatures on land, except snakes. [0003] Adult eye surface area is about 2cm 2 . It is covered by a complex tear film, which has a three-layer structure, where each layer has an individual and required function. [0004] The closest to the surface of the eye is the inner layer of mucus with a thickness of about 10-20 Φm. The mucus in this layer stabilizes the tear film and provides adhesion of the tear film to the underlying cornea and conjunctiva. Mucus also r...
