Abstract

A system for realizing service switching of a network element in multimedia message service is disclosed by the present invention. The system includes a Multimedia Message Service Center (MMSC) and opposite network elements; wherein, the MMSC is used for transmitting a request to an opposite network element and waiting for the response from the opposite network element; the opposite network element is used for returning success or failure response to the MMSC according to its normal or abnormal state after receiving the request transmitted from the MMSC. With the present invention, the MMSC can automatically switch the service to a backup opposite network element after timely detecting the failure of a primary opposite network element, and automatically switch the service back after timely detecting the recovery of the primary opposite network element. The whole operation process of the present invention is completed automatically without manual intervention, and thus the success rate of the multimedia message service is high when the failure of the primary opposite network element occurs suddenly.
