The method comprises the following steps: aiming at a performance index group, the network equipment traverses the values of the performance index group and finds out the performance data with the maximum value; the network equipment determines the byte count occupied by the performance data; and the network equipment writes the performance index group in a performance file, and during writing, each performance index value in the performance index group occupies the bytes with the byte count in the file, and the byte count is indicated in the performance file. The method of the invention can reduce the size of the performance file reported by a network element, achieve occupation of smaller space, generate a smaller performance file, reduce the time that the network element writes the performance data in the file, the time that the network element transmits the file to a network manager through a network, and the time that the network manager reads and analyzes the file, and improve the efficiency of the whole procedure of processing the performance file.
