Abstract

The invention discloses a method and system for updating a report cycle of an MTC (machine type communication) device and an MTC device which is applicable to a UTRAN (UMTS terrestrial radio access network) and an E-UTRAN (evolved UMTS terrestrial radio access network). In the invention, either the MTC device or the network side can modify and determine the report cycle of the MTC device, and the one modifying and determining the report cycle of the MTC device notifies the other one by using a message carrying the report cycle. The network side modifies and determines the report cycle of the MTC device according to the reported data through a core network or MTC device server; or the core network or MTC device server determines the report cycle of the MTC device according to a request for modifying the report cycle of the MTC device; or the MTC device determines the report cycle. Through the invention, the report cycle of the MTC device can be flexibly configured and updated in real time, the MTC device reports data according to the updated report cycle, the electric energy can be saved, and the normal working time of the MTC device can be prolonged as much as possible.
