Abstract

The invention provides a hybrid optical connector. Connector systems are provided that carry electrical and optical signals in a single connector. The male electro-optical connector may have an electrical insert portion that fits into the receptacle of the female electro-optic connector to provide a structural connection. The optical interface may advantageously be in front of the connector for ease of maintenance. Optical connectors having relatively large diameters for optical interfaces are also provided. The optical connector may include a collector for receiving an optical signal at a large opening and providing a signal to a collector of a photodiode at a small opening of the collector. Such an optical connector having a large diameter for the optical interface may advantageously provide reduced alignment tolerances. Adapters, cable adapters, docking stations, and other equipment are also available.
