Problems solved by technology

[0004] However, the problem is how to integrate these fibers into the probe without damaging the original function of the probe, thereby changing the external or internal part of the probe (eg for taking tissue samples)
The problem that arises when the distal end of the fiber is integrated into the probe bevel is that it is not possible to allow a pinch or a recess as this would affect the trajectory of the probe when it is inserted into the tissue and thus be damaged due to the pinch tissue or may result in unwanted tissue collection in the recess
As a result, the shaping and orientation of the distal end of the fiber is not possible, limiting the geometrical possibilities of the fiber end and thus the probe volume at the front of the probe
[0006] The question is how to integrate the source-detector fiber into the probe bevel without indenting or pinching the bevel while still having freedom in designing the probing volume at the front of the probe

Embodiment Construction

[0037] Such as figure 1 As shown in , a probe 100 according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a shaft 110 , a bevel 120 at an end portion of the shaft, an optical fiber 130 , and a holder portion 160 . According to this exemplary embodiment, the shaft has a length of 150 mm and a diameter of 1.3 mm. Furthermore, the bevel forms an angle of 20° with the axis of the shaft.

[0038] In this embodiment, the optical fiber 130 extending from the distal end (ie, bevel 120 ), through the shaft 110 to the holder portion 160 passes through the opening of the holder portion 160 out of the stylet.

[0039] The end surfaces of the respective optical fibers may be arranged spaced apart from each other. Preferably, the distance between the ends of the fibers is greater than the diameter of the shaft. For example, the distance may be greater than 1.1 times the diameter. In particular, the distance may be greater than 1.25 times the diameter. Preferably, the distance may...

Abstract

A needle comprises a tip part, a holder part, a shaft, and fibers capable of transmitting light, wherein the shaft comprises a distal end connected to the tip part, and a proximal end connected to the holder part, wherein the tip part comprises a bevel, cutting facets, and at least one channel for accommodating a fiber, and wherein an end section of the fiber is located in the channel and an end surface of the fiber is located at one of the cutting facets. By way of the facets an introduction of the needle into tissue may be facilitated. A further aspect of the invention is a method for producing such a needle.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to a probe with integrated optical fiber. In particular, the invention relates to a small diameter probe for use in spectroscopy-based examination of tissue, such as diagnosing whether tissue is cancerous. [0002] The invention also relates to a system for optical tissue detection comprising such a probe. Background technique [0003] Probe intervention is widely used in the field of oncology to perform biopsy of tissue to detect whether the tissue is cancerous or not. To make these interventions more reliable, feedback on what tissue is in front of the probe is needed. This is achieved by using spectroscopy. This requires the integration of optical fibers into the probe. These fibers are used to transmit light to illuminate the tissue in front of the probe and to collect reflected light back from the tissue. [0004] However, there is a problem of how to integrate these fibers into the probe without damagi...
