Problems solved by technology

[0019] The problem with the described RSRP measurements is that signals received from eNBs of other cells arrive at the UE synchronously at various different times compared to the arrival of signals from the eNB of the serving cell

Embodiment Construction

[0031] image 3is a flowchart of the general RSRP measurement function for one receive antenna. At 20, time samples are extracted from the received signal including removal of, for example, a guard interval. At 22, an FFT is performed to transform from the time domain to the frequency domain. Reference symbols are extracted and demodulated from the frequency domain signal at 24 and 26 respectively, and a 2-dimensional filter function is applied to the demodulated reference symbols. Briefly, a set of channel estimates is computed over the frequency band by blocks 20-28, and at 30 the results are squared and summed in order to obtain a single RSRP value.

[0032] When considering the 20MHz bandwidth case (see ETSI TS 136 101 V8.10.0, section 5.6), the receiver will typically extract 2048 time samples per OFDM symbol at block 20 and will use an FFT at 22 with a length of 2048 . As described above, the reference symbols are equally spaced in the frequency direction and have an...

Abstract

In 3GPP LTE, user equipment must be able to report reference signal received power (RSRP) measurement to the serving cell's base station. A low-complexity method for asynchronous RSRP measurement in an LTE user equipment receiver is provided which comprises frequency shifting the received signal so that the upper or lower half band becomes centered around the DC frequency; decimating the received signal to a width of n2 m samples, n being the reference symbol spacing in the received signal; dividing the samples into n sample vectors with a length of 2 m each, superimposing said n sample vectors; and performing FFT operation on the superimposed signal.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to methods and devices for asynchronous RSRP measurements in LTE UE receivers. Background technique [0002] figure 1 The tasks that must be performed by the physical layer of a telecommunication user equipment (UE) according to the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard are shown. [0003] When a user equipment (UE) enters an LTE network, it must perform a cell search to detect the cell identifier (ID) of a potential base station, known in LTE terminology as an enhanced Node B (eNB). Also, the UE has to perform measurements on each detected cell to report the Reference Signal Received Power (PSRP) and the associated Reference Signal Received Quality (RSRQ). Once the UE has established a connection with the eNB, data reception is possible, and the feedback information sent from the UE to the serving eNB helps to optimally use t...
