A method for removing a weft thread which has been introduced incorrectly on an air-jet weaving machine and a corresponding air-jet weaving machine are proposed, wherein a first drive device drives an opening mechanism and wherein a second drive device drives a sley (36) together with the guide bars (32). A control mechanism operates the first drive device and the second drive device such that they run synchronously with one another in a normal weaving operation. The method according to the invention comprises the following steps: detecting a weft thread which has been introduced incorrectly into the shed with at least one warp thread stop motion; cancelling the synchronization between the first and second drive devices by means of the control mechanism; operating the second drive device by means of the control mechanism such that the guide bars (32) assume a first swivel position which swivels away from the warp-weft thread interlacing point (66); operating the first drive device by means of the control mechanism such that the opening mechanism converts the shed into a first open position with a relatively small opening angle (a); removing the incorrectly introduced weft thread on the introduction side or the exit side; cutting off the incorrectly introduced weft thread on the introduction side; and removing the incorrectly introduced and cut-off weft thread.
