The extraction method comprises the following steps of: determining a caption picture of an electronic book; providing a text control to receive characters input by a user to describe the caption picture; generating a character node by using the input characters and the resource information of the caption picture; and adding the character node into the structured contents of the electronic book as the caption of the electronic book. The invention also provides an extraction device for the picture caption. The extraction device comprises a determination module, the text control, a generation module and an addition module, wherein the determination module is used for determining the caption picture of the electronic book; the text control is used for receiving the characters input by the user to describe the caption picture; the generation module is used for generating the character node by using the input characters and the resource information of the caption picture; and the addition module is used for adding the character node into the structured contents of the electronic book as the caption of the electronic book.
