The method includes that quantities of sending and receiving messages between a business port pair and a business processing module and discarded message quantities are regularly read; whether the relationship among various message quantities read by a data acquisition unit at a current period meets preset fault conditions is judged; if the relationship among the various message quantities meets the preset fault conditions, a business processing unit is determined to be in a fault state, and a protection switching module is set as a bypass state; and when the protection switching module is in a bypass state, the business port pair is connected with each other to enable the business processing module to be bypassed. According to the protection switching control method, by means of data acquisition and analysis, whether the business processing module is in a fault state can be effectively judged; by means of the reasonable set processing period, the state modification of a protection switching unit can be rapidly controlled, and the protection of business massage transmission is achieved.
