The ranging method for the moving target by using the peak time difference among the pyroelectric signal peaks comprises the steps of placing an infrared lens in front of the dual pyroelectric sensor; measuring a time needed by the moving target with a certain speed passing through a detection area; that is the peak time difference of corresponding peaks in a wave shape outputted by the dual pyroelectric sensor when the moving target passes through the detection area; and then obtaining a distance between the moving target and the infrared lens according to semi-field angles of a known dual pyroelectric sensor passing through the infrared lens. The ranging method can measure the distance of the moving target simply, efficiently and passively, suffers relatively small interference from outside influences, has more accurate and reliable distance measurement results, and is low in power consumption, low in cost and simple in realization.
