Abstract

The present invention relates to a tensioner cylinder connection with multiple axial degrees of freedom, specifically a coupler with two axial degrees of freedom coupling a hydropneumatic cylinder to a tensioning ring of a riser tensioner mounted to a platform. The struts extend along the axis of the cylinder, and an intermediate sleeve is arranged around the struts to form a strut annulus. The outer sleeve is fixed to the tensioning ring and defines a cavity into which the strut and the intermediate sleeve are inserted so that an annular space is formed between the sleeve and the outer sleeve. The outer sleeve is coupled to the intermediate sleeve such that the outer sleeve is pivotable relative to the intermediate sleeve on a coupling between the outer sleeve and the intermediate sleeve. The intermediate sleeve is coupled to the strut such that the intermediate sleeve is pivotable relative to the strut on a coupling between the intermediate sleeve and the strut.
