Embodiment Construction

[0038]The illustrative embodiments described herein provide details regarding systems and methods for determining the position of one or more radiation blocking objects relative to various radiation sources and radiation sensors. In some embodiments, the radiation sources and sensors may be mounted in a frame. In some embodiments, the system may include or be used with various infrastructure devices, such as whiteboards, display monitors, and others. In some embodiments, the system may include or be used with a surface such as a whiteboard, wall, the surface of a display screen, or any other generally flat surface. The radiation source may emit radiation in the visible spectrum or in another spectrum, such as the ultraviolet or infrared spectrum. The embodiments described herein are illustrative only, and other implementations and configurations are possible.

Abstract

The present invention discloses several systems for tracking one or more radiation blocking objects on a surface. At least three radiation sensors are arranged adjacent to the surface, and a plurality of radiation sensors are also provided adjacent to the surface. Radiation from at least some radiation sources can reach each sensor. Radiation from one or more radiation sources is attenuated by one or more radiation blocking objects on the surface, preventing it from reaching each sensor. One or more polygons are calculated based on the attenuated radiation source and the position of the sensor. The location of the one or more radiation blocking objects is estimated and may be tracked based on the polygon.

Description

technical field [0001] The disclosed embodiments relate to systems, methods and sensors for detecting and tracking the location of one or more radiation blocking objects on a surface. Background technique [0002] Many computer inputs and other devices require tracking of one or more objects, such as a finger, stylus, pen, or other objects, as they lie on or move away from a surface. For example, computer monitors and other display screens can be equipped with touch screens so that a user can provide computer input using a finger or stylus as they move across the display surface of the screen. Likewise, the whiteboard can be equipped with a pen position detection system that tracks the position of one or more pens as they move across the writing surface of the whiteboard. [0003] Existing systems suffer from various deficiencies, including excessive complexity, high cost, high computational overhead, which affects both their accuracy and response time, among others.
