When detecting whether the number of services is larger than or smaller than a threshold value, a cloud platform judges the fact that service expansion and contraction are needed, and informs a service system of executing corresponding service expansion and contraction according to registered information of the service system on the cloud platform, wherein notification messages comprise parameters required by the service system for execution of corresponding service expansion and contraction, and the parameters comprise addresses of resources to be added or addresses of resources to be deleted when service expansion and contraction are executed. Through the method of cloud calculation service expansion and contraction, when virtual machine resources are expanded or reduced by the cloud platform, whether the service system should be informed when automatic expansion and contraction are conducted or not is judged according to the registered information of the service system on the cloud platform. After receiving the notification messages, the service system finishes installment operations or finishes stopping operations of corresponding resources according to information carried in the notification messages, and therefore automatic expansion and contraction of the cloud calculation services are effectively achieved.
