Abstract

A technique is described for managing streaming media traffic at a network entity capable of assuming a first radio channel state and a second radio channel state, the transition from the first radio channel state to the second radio channel state requiring a first predetermined period of time t1. A method implementation of this technique includes combining at a network entity at least two media segments such that the resulting combined media segment includes media data corresponding to a second predetermined time period t2, the second time period being greater than the first time period ; During the third time period t3, the media segment of the combination is transmitted from the network entity at the first radio channel state; at the network entity, the transition from the first radio channel state to the second radio channel state is initiated; and after the initiation step, at the network The entity waits at least for a time period t=t2-t3-t1, wherein the second time period is greater than the sum of the first time period and the third time period.
