Abstract

The present application describes embodiments of a method and apparatus for determining handover parameters in a wireless overlay network. One embodiment includes modifying an offset value used to determine when to handover a user equipment between a macrocell and a femtocell superimposing the macrocell. The offset value is modified in response to a change in one or more switching frequencies associated with the user equipment. When the sum of the offset value and the measured signal strength of the femto cell exceeds the measured value of the signal strength of the macro cell, handover of the user equipment is triggered.
