Abstract

Identifying flight motion events at the mobile device may utilize, for example, one or more accelerometers, acceleration feature extractors, and motion event identification processors. The one or more accelerometers may be configured to output calibrated triaxial accelerometer data. The acceleration feature extractor may be configured to determine a scalar acceleration signal from the calibrated triaxial accelerometer data, filter the scalar acceleration signal to reduce high frequency noise, and process the filtered scalar acceleration signal to generate Acceleration expansion waveform. The motion event identification processor may be configured to compare the acceleration expansion waveform to one or more predetermined pattern characteristics of an airline motion event, and identify an airline motion event based on whether the comparison results in a substantial match.

Description

[0001] Claim of priority under 35 U.S.C. §119 [0002] This patent application claims priority to Provisional Application No. 61 / 530,328, filed September 1, 2011, entitled "MEMS ACCELEROMETER AIRLINER TAKEOFF AND LANDING DETECTION," which provisional The application is assigned to the present assignee and is hereby incorporated by reference herein. technical field [0003] The present invention relates generally to motion event recognition, and more particularly to detecting airliner motion events such as takeoff or landing. Background technique [0004] Airline mobile phone use is strictly regulated for several reasons: interference with sensitive aircraft navigation equipment, potential interference with electronic aircraft flight control systems, assumption of reuse of cellular phone channels, and speech noise-related nuisance to other passengers. Airline and government regulators generally agree that the risks associated with the use of mobile phones on board airliners...
