Abstract

The invention discloses a method for realizing thin provisioning of a storage system, and aims to solve the technical problem of poor practicability in an existing thin provisioning method for the storage system. According to the technical scheme, a user and a manager of uniform resources ensure on-demand allocation of data storage by adding control information into file system metadata, and ensure that data is not stored in any unallocated space. In combination with an API (Application Program Interface) provided by a cloud storage system, expansion and use of an online storage space are realized, and the aim of thin provisioning is fulfilled. File system metadata information is redefined to include equipment information and address mapping information; a logical space is partitioned into allocated spaces and unallocated spaces in a file system, and address mapping management is performed; and a read-write process is monitored, so that read-write operation does not access the unallocated spaces. Through the method, the storage space can be managed conveniently; dynamic extension and retraction of the storage space are realized; and the practicability is high.
