Abstract

The communication device sends data to and receives data from the infrastructure equipment, which forms part of the communication network. The communication device includes a controller and a transceiver configured to transmit signals representing data to and / or receive signals representing data from the infrastructure device. The transceiver is configured to send a request for service message to the infrastructure device under control of the controller and to receive a response message for the request for service message from the infrastructure device. The request for service message includes a delay period, and the controller is configured, after sending the request for service message, to configure the transceiver to enter a reduced power state in which the amount of power consumed by the transceiver is reduced during the delay period. The controller is further configured to configure the transceiver to exit the reduced power state after expiration of the delay period to receive a response message from the infrastructure device.
