[0021] There are various aspects of the inventive subject matter that can be implemented individually or together in the devices and systems described and claimed below. These aspects may be used alone or in combination with other aspects of the subject matter described herein, and the description of these aspects together is not intended to exclude the use of these aspects alone or the individual protection of such aspects or in different combinations as set forth in the appended claims .

[0022] Where existing therapies for the treatment of one or more diseases may result in certain unintended side effects, additional treatment may be desired or needed. One procedure that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of disease and / or side effects of existing therapies involving monocytes is extracorporeal photopheresis or "ECP". Extracorporeal photopheresis (also sometimes referred to as extracorporeal photochemotherapy) is a procedure that involves (1) collection of mo...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a system and method for detecting minimum hematocrit with irradiation receivers during extracorporeal photopheresis. An irradiation device for photopheresis, comprises an exposure chamber configured to receive an illumination container holding a target cell suspension, an irradiation transmitter configured to irradiate the illumination container and target cell suspension, an irradiation receiver configured to detect absorption of radiation from the irradiation transmitter, and a processing circuit coupled to the irradiation receiver and configured to determine whether a hematocrit of the target cell suspension exceeds a predetermined threshold hematocrit and to treat the target cell suspension with a treatment dosage of radiation if the predetermined threshold is exceeded.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Patent Application 62 / 099,745, filed January 5, 2015, which is expressly incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates to methods for performing in vitro photopheresis of target cells and more particularly to systems and methods for detecting hematocrit using an irradiation receiver as part of a photopheresis process. Background technique [0004] Whole blood is composed of various cellular and noncellular components, plasma, such as red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, suspended in its liquid component. Whole blood can be separated into its constituent components (cells, fluid or other) and the separated components can be administered to a patient when that particular component is needed. [0005] Administration of blood and / or blood components is common in the treatment of patients with dis...
