Abstract

The invention relates to a visual detection method for detecting whether a motor cyclist wears a helmet or not, and the method comprises two steps: motorcycle dividing and classification for judging whether a concerned object is a motorcycle or not, and the detection whether the helmet is worn or not. The method employs common Haar features as a descriptor and an SVM classifier for the motorcycle classification. We employs CHT (circular Hough transform) to extract a head region for the helmet detection, so as to extract the image features through an HOG (Histogram of oriented gradients) descriptor, and classify targets through employing an MLP (multilayer perception) classifier. The method is high in detection accuracy, is good in instantaneity, and is high in value of engineering application.
