Abstract

Therapeutic proteins for inducing apoptosis in cells and methods of using such proteins are described. Proteins, such as chimeric proteins, have a host peptide fused to a more stable BH3 domain peptide. The host peptide may be calcium binding protein D9k, the N-terminal or C-terminal half-domain of calmodulin, parvalbumin ("Pa"), amino acid sequence variants thereof, or modified variants thereof. The BH3 domain can be Bim, Bid, Bad, Bik, Bmf, Hrk, Puma or Noxia. Also, various conjugates can be attached to chimeric proteins, including folic acid and polyethylene glycol.
