[0027] The following patent applications, assigned to the same assignee as the present disclosure and filed on the same date as the present disclosure, are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety (identified by docket numbers): 79766US01 (U320411US); 78887US01 (U320410US); 78800US01 (U320415US); and 77964US01 (U320409US).

[0028] figure 1 A self-propelled or ropeless elevator system 20 is depicted in an exemplary embodiment that may be used in a structure or building 22 having multiple levels or floors 24 . Elevator system 20 includes a hoistway 26 having a boundary defined by structure 22 and at least one car 28 adapted to travel in hoistway 26 . The hoistway 26 may include, for example, three passageways 30, 32, 34, each extending along a respective central axis 35, with any number of cabs 28 in any one passageway and in any number of directions of travel (e.g., up and down). March. For example and as shown, the cabs 28 in the aisles 30 , 34 may travel in an u...

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to electromagnetic propulsion systems with wireless power transfer systems. An electromagnetic propulsion system includes a plurality of primary windings and a permanent magnet arranged to move relative to the plurality of primary windings. The secondary winding of the system is arranged in a non-moving relationship with the permanent magnet. Excitation energy is applied to the plurality of primary windings for generating a magnetic field including a fundamental frequency component and low frequency harmonic components. The fundamental frequency component substantially contributes to motion between the plurality of primary windings and the permanent magnet, and the low frequency harmonic component substantially contributes to motion based on the plurality of primary windings and the permanent magnet. The displacement between them generates an electromotive force in the secondary winding.

Description

Background technique [0001] The present disclosure relates to electromagnetic propulsion systems, and more particularly, to propulsion systems with wireless power transfer systems. [0002] The electromagnetic propulsion system operates to move the first structure relative to the fixed second structure, generally by magnetic levitation. Without a tether, it is difficult to provide onboard power to a moving first structure. [0003] As a non-limiting example, a self-propelled elevator system could utilize such a magnetic propulsion system. Such ropeless elevator systems are useful in certain applications (eg, high-rise buildings) where the quality of the ropes used for roped systems is prohibitive and / or where multiple elevator cars are required in a single hoistway. Elevator cars generally require electrical power for ventilation, lighting systems, operation of doors and brakes, control units, communication units and to recharge battery packs mounted eg on the elevator car c...
