Problems solved by technology

[0008] Because of this, cam rollers are complex and costly
[0009] However, the size of the cam roller cannot be increased arbitrarily, thereby also imposing a limit on the fuel pressure handled by the fuel cell pump

Embodiment Construction

[0054] Exemplary embodiments are described with reference to the figures, rather than limiting application and use.

[0055] Some embodiments may include automotive systems 100 such as figure 1 with 2 As shown, it includes an internal combustion engine (ICE) 110 having an engine block 120 defining at least one cylinder 125 having a piston 140 coupled to rotate a crankshaft 145 . Cylinder head 130 cooperates with piston 140 to define combustion chamber 150 . A fuel and air mixture (not shown) is disposed in combustion chamber 150 and ignited, the resulting thermally expanding exhaust causes reciprocating motion of piston 140 . Fuel is provided through at least one fuel injector 160 and air is provided through at least one inlet port 210 . Fuel injector 160 is provided fuel at high pressure from fuel rail 170 in fluid communication with a high pressure fuel pump that increases the pressure of fuel received from fuel source 190 . According to a possible embodiment, the engine...

Abstract

A roller tappet 1 for a fuel unit pump 180 of an internal combustion engine 110 provided with a roller tappet bore 111 for inserting the roller tappet 1 within the internal combustion engine 110, the roller tappet 1 comprising a roller tappet body (10, Fig. 4), having a body longitudinal axis (BLA), for connecting the roller tappet 1 to a reciprocating element 180b of said fuel unit pump 180, and a cam roller 12 for contacting a cam lobe 135a of a rotatable shaft 135 of the internal combustion engine 110, the cam roller 12 being rotatably mounted to the roller tappet body (10, Fig. 4) around a cam roller rotation axis (RA), wherein the external surface (10a, Fig. 4) of said roller tappet body is configured to allow tilting of the roller tappet 1 within the roller tappet bore 111 to align the roller tappet 1 with respect to the cam lobe 135a of the rotatable shaft 135. The roller tappet body may have a varying width to allow the tilting to occur, an arrangement that is intended to reduce the stresses in the system and the effects of machining errors and misalignment.

Description

technical field [0001] The technical field relates to fuel injection of internal combustion engines, and in particular to roller lifters for fuel cell pumps of internal combustion engines. Background technique [0002] According to a possible configuration of the injection system of the internal combustion engine, a fuel cell pump is provided to supply fuel under pressure to the fuel injectors (injector nozzles). [0003] The fuel cell pumps are actuated by respective cam lobes of a rotating shaft of the internal combustion engine, such as a camshaft or crankshaft. More specifically, the fuel element pump is provided with a roller tappet that is contacted by a camshaft in a cam-cam follower configuration. In particular, the cam lobes of the camshaft serve as the cam and the roller lifters serve as the cam follower. The roller lifter is connected to the reciprocating element of the fuel element pump so that the rotational movement of the camshaft can be transmitted to the f...
