Problems solved by technology

Generally, marks having a darkness defined by an L value (L value) equal to or less than 30 are preferred, but such marks are difficult or impossible to produce, or are limited by the lengthy duration of the laser processing used to produce the marks. Impractical for high-volume manufacturing

Abstract

A method comprising: generating a plurality of bursts of pulses, each having a predetermined number of pulses within a burst and a time interval between pulses within a burst, and having a burst frequency of pulses; and, scanning the pulse burst across an anodized target at a scan rate such that the pulse burst overlaps at the anodized target by an amount above the overlap damage threshold and pulses within the burst provide a peak power and peak fluence below the ablation threshold of the oxidized target to produce a laser mark on the anodized target having an L value less than or equal to 30 without damaging the anodized layer of the anodized target.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 273,847, filed December 31, 2015, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The field relates to picosecond laser burst marking and materials processing. Background technique [0004] It has been found that directing a laser beam at objects of various material types can produce laser marks with various degrees of durability and quality and with various visual characteristics. Generally, marks having a darkness defined by an L value (L value) equal to or less than 30 are preferred, but such marks are difficult or impossible to produce, or are limited by the lengthy duration of the laser processing used to produce the marks. Impractical for high-volume manufacturing. Therefore, there is still a need for laser processing capable of producing dark marks in a small amount of time. Contents of the i...
