Abstract

An apparatus for providing deep neurostimulation to a patient includes a housing for supporting a deep neurostimulation coil. The housing includes a wall having an outer surface for presentation to the patient for stimulation. The primary coil is supported in the main chamber of the housing adjacent the inner surface of the wall opposite the outer surface. A rib is disposed between the main coil and the inner surface, and the main coil rests thereon. The ribs define channels through which coolant can be directed to cool, in use, the bottom surface of the main coil which is closest to the patient-side wall. The main coil is adapted to generate a wide and deep penetrating electric field capable of hitting the target area when energized. The secondary coil is configured and arranged to focus and shape the field produced by the primary coil when energized, so we are able to maximize the field strength of the targeted deep nerve while minimizing the field near the off-target sensitive area.
