Problems solved by technology

Potential interference from ribbons typically limits the sensor technologies that can be used to measure Z-gap distance to magnetic, capacitive, or inductive sensing types, since opaque ribbon material often blocks optical sensors
While relatively low-cost magnetic field orientation sensors exist to allow precise displacement sensing for the X and Y directions, absolute Z-gap measurements have traditionally been limited to the use of expensive inductive coil technology

[0021] The following discussion used to describe the principles of the invention in this patent document Figures 1 to 9 and various examples are by way of illustration only and should not be construed in any way as limiting the scope of the invention. Those skilled in the art will understand that the principles of the invention may be implemented in any suitable way and in any type of suitably arranged device or system.

[0022] figure 1 Portions of an example web making or web handling system 100 in accordance with the present disclosure are illustrated. Such as figure 1 As shown in , the system 100 manufactures or processes a continuous web 102 . Ribbon 102 may represent any one or more suitable materials that are fabricated or processed as a moving sheet or other ribbon. Example webbing 102 may include paper, plyboard, cardboard, plastic, fabric, or metal webbing.

[0023] In this example, the web 102 is transported through this portion of the system 100 using two pai...

Abstract

A gap and displacement magnetic sensor system for a scanner head in a paper machine or other system includes a multi-sensor assembly (414b). The multi-sensor assembly includes a plurality of magnetic field orientation sensors (514x-514z) configured to capture measurements of magnetic fields (550-552) to identify (i) a first scan sensor head and a second scan sensor head The displacement in the first direction (X direction) and (ii) the gap spacing of the first scan sensor head (410a) and the second scan sensor head (410b) in the second direction (Z direction), and (iii) the The displacement of the first scanning sensor head and the second scanning sensor head in the third direction (Y direction). At least one of the magnetic field orientation sensors (514z) is arranged offset from the centerline (552) of the magnetic field such that the output from the at least one magnetic field orientation sensor indicates a combination of gap spacing and displacement in the first or third direction.

Description

[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE AND PRIORITY TO RELATED APPLICATIONS [0002] This application claims benefit under 35 U.S.C. § 119(e) to U.S. Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 074,186, filed November 3, 2014, entitled "GAPAND DISPLACEMENT MAGNETIC SENSOR SYSTEM FOR SCANNER HEADS IN PAPER MACHINESOR OTHER SYSTEMS" The priority of the subject. The contents of the patent documents identified above are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present disclosure generally relates to scanning systems. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to gap and displacement magnetic sensor systems for scanner heads in paper machine or other systems. Background technique [0004] Sheets or other webs of material are used in a variety of industries and in a variety of ways. These materials may include paper, ply board and other products manufactured or processed in long webs. As a specific example, long sheets of paper may be manufactured and collected i...
