Problems solved by technology

One disadvantage is that this consumes system resources and reduces achievable system throughput by up to 5.2Mbps (assuming 64QAM and 4 layers) or about 450Gb / day in each cell supporting extended coverage

[0224]The initial and final states differ between code blocks due to different CRC checksums, but by using state transition masks, states are connected to each other and decoding can be based on joint metrics. After backtracking, the decoded first and second messages (corresponding to CRC encoded MIB instances 1 and 2) can be extracted as illustrated by 510 and 520 .

[0225] More generally, the decoding method can be described via the following methods and decoders.

[0226] Method of a communication device decoding a first message

[0227] The first message and the second message are coded to generate a first codeword and a second codeword, respectively. The code is represented as a state machine and a state transition of the state machine has a previous state and a subsequent state and is associated with a corresponding segment of the codeword.

Once a cell has been detected by means of detection of a synchronization signal, the device reads the MIB to obtain information about the DL bandwidth and PHICH configuration in use, as well as the current system frame number. With this information, the device is able to tune its radio receiver to the correct bandwidth and start receiving system information, which carries the information needed for the device to perform random access towards the cell and further attach to the particular network to which the cell belongs.

Abstract

Decoding of a first message is disclosed, wherein the first and second messages are encoded by a code to produce first and second codewords, the first and second codewords being received over a communication channel. Assume a number of differences between the first and second messages. Select the initial code field, which has multiple initial states as associated previous states. The first message is decoded by determining first and second metrics associated with respective likelihoods that the code fields of the first and second codewords correspond to the content of the first message segment, the likelihoods of the second metrics being equal to Conditioning on an assumed difference of an initial state associated with a previous state corresponding to a state transition of the first message segment content; determining a decision metric by combining the first and second metrics; and selecting either the first message segment content or the second message based on the decision metric section content. If the first message segment content is selected, the subsequent state of the state transition corresponding to the first message segment content is associated with the initial state associated with the previous state of the state transition.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to the field of decoding. More specifically, it concerns the decoding of messages with known or assumed discrepancies. Background technique [0002] Specific examples and scenarios where some of the embodiments are applicable are given herein. However, it should be understood that some embodiments may be equally applicable with respect to other examples and scenarios. [0003] Machine Type Communication in Enhanced Coverage [0004] There is a current work item (3GPP RP-130848) in 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) on "Low cost & enhanced coverage MTC UE for LTE (Low cost & enhanced coverage MTC UE for LTE)". One goal of the work item is to significantly improve the coverage of Machine Type Communication (MTC) devices for LTE. One purpose of the work item is to improve support for such devices under poor radio conditions; these devices typically have low data rate requirements and are delay tolerant....
