Abstract

The core body temperature monitoring system includes a first core body temperature thermometer and a second thermometer including a heat flux sensor. A second thermometer is applied to the skin to provide temperature monitoring over time. The output from the first core body temperature thermometer during the initial measurement operation is used to calibrate the second thermometer. The first thermometer is removably attached to the second thermometer, wherein the first thermometer is adapted for use while being attached to the second thermometer and then removed when the second thermometer is to be used. The system provides calibration of the flux sensor applied to the skin by using initial core body temperature measurements. In this way, the functionality and use of a typical core body temperature thermometer is combined with a wearable continuous monitoring capability.
