Problems solved by technology

The CBT calculation is directly affected by the thermal resistance rate of the body, such that if a fixed thermal resistance of the body is used, changes in the thermal resistance of the body are completely ignored, which leads to an error in the CBT estimate

Embodiment Construction

[0062] The present invention provides a core body temperature monitoring system and method comprising a first core body temperature thermometer and a second thermometer comprising a heat flux sensor. A second thermometer is applied to the skin to provide temperature monitoring over time. The second thermometer is calibrated using the output from the first thermometer during the initial measurement operation. The first thermometer is removably attached to the second thermometer, wherein the first thermometer is adapted for use while attached to the second thermometer and then detached when the second thermometer is to be used.

[0063] The system provides calibration of the skin-applied flux sensor by using initial core body temperature measurements. In this way, the functionality and use of a typical core body temperature thermometer is combined with a wearable continuous monitoring capability.

Abstract

The core body temperature monitoring system includes a first core body temperature thermometer and a second thermometer including a heat flux sensor. A second thermometer is applied to the skin to provide temperature monitoring over time. The output from the first core body temperature thermometer during the initial measurement operation is used to calibrate the second thermometer. The first thermometer is removably attached to the second thermometer, wherein the first thermometer is adapted for use while being attached to the second thermometer and then removed when the second thermometer is to be used. The system provides calibration of the flux sensor applied to the skin by using initial core body temperature measurements. In this way, the functionality and use of a typical core body temperature thermometer is combined with a wearable continuous monitoring capability.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the measurement of core body temperature, in particular the measurement of core body temperature using surface mounted temperature sensors. Background technique [0002] Core body temperature (CBT) is important as a vital sign in many parts of the hospital as well as in home monitoring. [0003] The invention is of particular interest for home monitoring applications and especially for baby monitoring. [0004] When parents have questions about their children's health, information searches are primarily done on the Internet, with limited success. In many cases, there is too much information and it creates more anxiety and uncertainty. [0005] Emergency department consultations among children have reportedly increased by approximately 40% over the past decade, and use of primary care and out-of-hours services has also increased significantly. [0006] Both parents and GPs regard temperature as a valuable indicator fo...
