Abstract

The present invention provides a lubricating composition having a Base Number (as measured by ISO 3771) of 30 mg KOH / g or less. The lubricating composition is suitable for use in a two-stroke crosshead diesel engine and exhibits good deposit formation properties and good anti-wear performance.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a lubricating composition, in particular to a lubricating composition for use in internal combustion engines which can operate under sustained high load conditions, such as marine diesel engines and power applications. More specifically, the present invention relates to a lubricating composition useful in two-stroke crosshead diesel engines, especially for slow or medium speed applications. Background technique [0002] The International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) sets out environmental regulations for ships. Annex VI sets out the "Regulations for the Prevention of Air Pollution from Ships" and includes emission limits. Since the beginning of 2015, emissions of sulfur oxides must be below 0.10% by weight sulfur equivalent in so-called "emission control areas". This can be achieved through exhaust gas treatment or by limiting the sulfur content of the fuel used by ships. [0003] Ma...
