Embodiment Construction

[0012] Electronic systems may include multiple integrated circuit devices requiring multiple voltage domains. The system also includes multiple power supplies that provide supply voltage rails for multiple voltage domains. These systems can have very strict voltage sequencing requirements that are implemented using dedicated voltage sequence controllers. A sequencer activates the supply voltage rails of a specific voltage domain in a specific order.

[0013] figure 1 is a timing diagram of an example of a supply voltage sequencer device that sequentially activates voltage domains. For example, a voltage sequencer controls and monitors power supplies that provide multiple voltages, such as voltages of 1.2 volts (V), 1.8V, 2.5V, and 3.3V. As shown in the timing diagram, the voltage sequencer activates the power rails in the order 2.5V, 1.8V, 1.2V, and 3.3V, and shuts down the power rails in the reverse order.

[0014] Electronic systems continue to contain more equipment. F...

Abstract

This disclosure relates to the use of linked lists to create feature-rich finite state machines in integrated circuits. An apparatus comprising: an integrated circuit (IC) including a sequencer circuit; and a memory integrated or operably coupled to the integrated circuit, wherein at least a portion of the memory is organized as a finite array defining a plurality of finite IC states a plurality of hierarchically linked lists of state machines; wherein the sequencer circuit is configured to: receive one or more control words from the hierarchically linked lists associated with the IC state; advance the IC to the IC state based on the one or more control words; and perform one or more actions corresponding to the state of the IC.

Description

[0001] claim priority [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Application Serial No. 62 / 490,431, filed April 26, 2017, and is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. Background technique [0003] Some electronic systems include monitoring integrated circuits. For example, an electronic system may include a plurality of power supplies controlled by monitoring circuitry that may perform functions related to sequencing the power supplies to power up or down and monitoring the power supplies. As electronic systems continue to become more complex, providing appropriate supervisory controls for electronic systems becomes a challenge. Additionally, changes to complex electronic systems can be difficult to implement. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION [0004] The present invention generally relates to controlling electronic systems by means of finite state machines implemented using hierarchical linked lists. Examples of devices include: an integrated circuit...
