The method comprises: constructing a tank wall and edge plates with a combination of a kind of different thicknesses and b kind of different widths to construct a*b experimental storage tanks, wherein the a*b groups of edge plates can be respectively arranged at the bottom of the tank wall; installingstress strain sensors on the tank wall and the bottom of the experimental tanks, and injecting liquid into the experimental tanks; loading the liquid using a settling method of nth harmonic, increasing the loading by increasing the amplitude of the nth harmonic, stopping the loading and recording the amplitude of a current nth harmonic when the stress value detected by the stress strain sensor reaches a predetermined threshold; and determining the comprehensive bearing capacity value of each experimental storage tank according to the n amplitudes corresponding to each experimental storage tank, thereby obtaining a judgment set composed of the comprehensive bearing capacity values of a*b experimental storage tanks, and determining the thickness and width of the edge plates.
