Embodiment Construction

[0024] figure 1 is a block diagram showing an exemplary electrical schematic of a conductivity sensor with void correction. In the illustrated embodiment, the sensor 100 includes an excitation toroid 104 and a measurement toroid 105 that can be used to inductively determine the conductivity of fluid flowing through the toroid. The sensor includes a controller 102, which may be configured to drive an excitation loop coil 104 via a driver 103, for example to flow an excitation current through the excitation loop coil. The controller 102 may also be configured to receive a signal representative of the current flowing through the measurement loop coil 105 via the detector 106 . For example, the use of excitation and measurement loop coils to inductively measure the conductivity of fluids is described in U.S. Patent No. 7,126,343, filed July 27, 2005, assigned to the assignee of the present application and incorporated by reference. The entire contents are incorporated herein. ...

Abstract

The present invention discloses systems and methods that can be used to correct for the presence of voids in a fluid when measuring the conductivity of the fluid. Said conductivity of the fluid may be measured using a conductivity sensor. Capacitive electrodes can be used to measure the capacitance of the fluid. The measured capacitance affected by the fluid may be used in conjunction with the measured conductivity to determine a corrected conductivity value that compensates for possible voids in the fluid. Other parameters, such as the composition or temperature of the fluid, can be used to determine corrected conductivity measurements. Some such systems include an annular housing and can be inserted or integrated into a fluid flow system such that the fluid to be analyzed flows through an aperture defined by the annular housing.

Description

[0001] cross reference [0002] This application is a continuation of US Patent Application Serial No. 15 / 242,132, filed August 19, 2016, the entire contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference. Background technique [0003] Fluid conductivity measurements are used in a wide variety of applications. In various embodiments, conductivity measurements can be used to determine the concentration of a constituent in the fluid being analyzed. In other cases, the conductivity of the fluid itself may be an important parameter for various uses of the fluid, eg requiring the fluid to be sufficiently conductive or sufficiently insulating. [0004] Various conductivity measuring devices have been developed. For example, a contact sensor comprising one or more electrodes in communication with a fluid can be used to analyze fluid electrical properties. In other examples, a loop sensor can be used to measure the conductivity of fluid flowing through the center of the loop coil. ...
