[0154] I. Cardiac Physiology

[0155] Figure 1A-1 The left ventricle LV of a normal heart H in systole is illustrated in . The left ventricle LV is contracting and blood flows outward through the tricuspid valve (aortic valve) AV in the direction of the arrow. Since the mitral valve MV is shaped as a "check valve" that prevents backflow when the pressure in the left ventricle is higher than the pressure in the left atrium LA, the backflow or "regurgitation" of blood through the mitral valve is prevented. like Figure 1A-1 As illustrated in , the mitral valve MV includes a pair of leaflets with free edges FE that meet uniformly to close. The opposite ends of the leaflets LF are attached to surrounding cardiac structures along an annular region called the annulus AN. The free edge FE of the leaflet LF is fixed to the lower portion of the left ventricle LV by chordae CT (hereafter referred to as tendon), which includes the branch tendons fixed over the inferior surface of ea...

Abstract

A clip for securing leaflets of a heart or vein valve includes a hub having a pair of anti-tangle spring biased outer arms coupled to a lower end of the hub and adjacent and coupled to the outer arms. A pair of anti-winding spring biases the inner arms to the upper end of the hub. A delivery catheter can be used to position the valve clip proximate the target valve while the outer and inner arms are biased in an open position relative to each other. After the valve leaflet is positioned between the open outer and inner arms, the biasing force can be released to allow the clip to self-close the clip over the valve leaflet.

Description

[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS [0002] This application claims the benefit of Provisional Application No. 62 / 361,953 (Attorney Docket No. 52206-703.101), filed July 13, 2016, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. Background technique [0003] 1. technical field . The present invention generally relates to medical methods, devices and systems. In particular, the present invention relates to methods, devices and systems for endovascular, percutaneous or minimally invasive surgical treatment of bodily tissue, such as tissue approximation or valve repair. More particularly, the present invention relates to methods and devices for the repair of cardiac mitral and tricuspid valves, venous valves, and other tissue structures through minimally invasive and other procedures. [0004] Surgical repair of bodily tissue often involves approximating the tissue and securing such tissue in an approximated arrangement. When repairing a valve, tissue ...
