Embodiment Construction

[0043] figure 1 A narrowband wireless communication system 10 (eg, a cellular Internet of Things CIoT system, such as NB-IoT) is shown according to some embodiments. As shown, system 10 includes a core network (CN) 12 and a radio access network (RAN) 14 . CN 12 connects one or more wireless communication devices 16 (eg, user equipment UE) via RAN 14 to one or more external networks. The one or more external networks may include, for example, a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) or a Packet Data Network (PDN), such as the Internet.

[0044] The RAN 14 includes one or more radio network nodes 18 (eg, base stations, transmission points, or the like), one of which is shown. Each radio network node 18 transmits and / or receives radio signals in order to provide radio coverage for the wireless communication device(s) 16 . Via this radio coverage, each radio network node 18 provides access to the CN 12 for the wireless communication device(s) 16 .

Abstract

User equipment (16) is configured for operation in a narrowband wireless communication system (10). The user equipment (16) is configured to detect receipt of a narrowband positioning reference signal(20) that comprises a narrowband reference signal sequence. The narrowband reference signal sequence is a subsequence of a wideband reference signal sequence. The wideband reference signal sequence is configured for a wideband frequency bandwidth that is wider than a maximum frequency bandwidth defined for the narrowband wireless communication system (10). The user equipment (16) is also configured to perform a positioning measurement using the narrowband positioning reference signal (20).

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 402,741 filed September 30, 2016, the entire contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The present application relates generally to wireless communication systems, and in particular to narrowband positioning reference signals in narrowband wireless communication systems. Background technique [0004] The Internet of Things (IoT) is a vision of a future world where everything that can benefit from connectivity is connected. Cellular technologies are being developed or evolved to play an integral role in the IoT world, especially Machine Type Communications (MTC). MTC is characterized by lower data rate requirements than e.g. mobile broadband, but with e.g. lower cost device design, better coverage, and the ability to operate on batteries for years without recharging or replacing batteries higher requirements. To meet...
