Embodiment Construction

[0049] Referring to the accompanying drawings, an assembly 10 for detachably fixing electrical equipment to a support surface 4 according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: a support socket 2 mountable to the support surface 4, and an accessory module 18 electrically connected to the electrical equipment . The support socket 2 has a row of protrusions 8 spaced apart from each other along the inner wall of the socket. Each protrusion defines a first (bottom) cam surface 9 and an upwardly opening retaining groove 16 . The first coaxial electrical connector 6 is attached to the support socket 2 via a biasing element 30 which in the embodiment shown takes the form of a tension spring so as to be axially slidable within the support socket 2 . This biasing arrangement is configured to provide a force against insertion of the accessory module 18 into the support receptacle 2 . Although tension springs are used in the embodiment shown in the drawings, other embodime...

Abstract

An assembly (10) for detachably securing electrical equipment to a support surface comprising: a support receptacle (2); a first coaxial electrical connector (6) slidable within the support receptacle via a biasing element; An accessory module (18) to the electrical device has a second coaxial electrical connector (20) for connection to the first coaxial electrical connector. The inner wall of the support socket includes protrusions (8) each defining a cam surface (9) and a retaining groove (16); the outer wall of the accessory module includes an outwardly protruding flange (22). The accessory module is secured in the support socket by pushing against the biasing element in the axial direction so that the flange is guided along the cam surface, moving itself or another flange between the two protrusions to into the retaining groove. The accessory module is released from the support socket by pushing against the biasing element in the axial direction.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to devices, assemblies and methods for releasably securing electrical equipment to a support surface. Background technique [0002] Along with many existing homes, thousands of new homes are built each year, each outfitted with dozens of conventional light fixtures. Those buying a new home are often limited to a few light fixture options from developers to simplify logistics and take advantage of bulk buying. This is not ideal for those who may want to personalize their property with lights of their own choice. [0003] If a homeowner wants to replace one or more light fixtures, the process is time consuming, costly and requires a qualified electrician. Additionally, because the light fixture is already hardwired to the utility and mechanically installed, it is often not possible to return an unwanted light fixture for a refund or exchange. [0004] In other applications, such as in functional venues (e.g. wedding venue...
