Abstract
Methods for preventing esophageal stricture following an endoscopic resection procedure in a subject are provided. A solution having a pH level of about 3.5 and including a self-assembling peptide comprising between about 7 amino acids and about 32 amino acids in an effective amount and in an effective concentration to form a hydrogel under esophageal conditions to provide prevention of esophagealstricture may be introduced to a target site.
Description
technical field [0001] The present disclosure generally relates to methods useful in medical and research applications. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to methods useful for preventing esophageal strictures after endoscopic dissection. Background technique [0002] Endoscopic dissection has become a cornerstone in the diagnosis and therapeutic management of preneoplastic conditions in the esophagus and early-stage esophageal neoplasms. However, in about 90% of cases, mucosal defects exceeding three-quarters (270°) of the esophageal circumference induce the formation of esophageal strictures. These strictures may require multiple endoscopic dilation procedures with significant patient discomfort and risk of esophageal perforation. Contents of the invention [0003] According to one or more aspects, a method of preventing esophageal strictures following an endoscopic resection procedure in a subject may include: introducing a delivery device into the subj...
