Embodiment Construction

[0012] The present invention relates to a device comprising: a frequency multiplier circuit for receiving a base frequency signal, multiplying the base frequency signal, and outputting the multiplied frequency of the base frequency signal; and an offset frequency generator , comprising at least one logic gate for receiving the multiplied frequency of the base frequency signal and outputting an offset frequency signal from the at least one logic gate. The apparatus further includes a mixing circuit for receiving the offset frequency signal and a digital data signal, converting the digital data signal into an analog representation of the digital data signal, combining the offset frequency signal with The analog representation of the digital data signal is mixed to produce a mixed signal that is a different frequency and anharmonic of the multiple of the fundamental frequency signal. The device also further includes a power amplifier to amplify the mixed frequency signal and outp...

Abstract

A device (100) includes a frequency multiplier circuit (110) to receive a base frequency signal, multiply the base frequency signal, and output the multiple of the base frequency signal, and includesan offset frequency generator (120), including at least one logic gate (125), to receive the multiple of the base frequency signal and output an offset frequency signal from the at least one logic gate combination. A mixing circuit (130) receives the offset frequency signal and a digital data signal, converts the digital data signal into an analog representation of the digital data signal, and mixes the offset frequency signal and the analog representation of the digital data signal to produce a mixed signal. The device (100) yet further includes a power amplifier (136) to amplify the mixed signal and output the amplified mixed signal as an output frequency signal of the device (100).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to radio frequency transmitters, and more particularly to a frequency generator based radio frequency transmitter. Background technique [0002] Radio frequency (RF) transmitters are used in a variety of devices that rely on wireless communications. These RF transmitters operate at various frequencies based on their application. For example, cellular telephones, WiFi devices, Bluetooth devices, digital radios, etc. all operate at various frequencies. These RF transmitters typically integrate high-power power amplifiers (PAs) for amplifying signals, often with large amplitude modulations, for example with large peak-to-average (PAR) ratios. Such RF transmitters typically employ a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) to generate one or more radio frequencies as the basis for generating the desired output frequency. Such signals with large amplitude modulation result in frequency pulling of the voltage controlled ...
